Precision riffle splitters
The only line ME&QC makes to a standard rather than to a job. Six configurations, 3 mm to 60 mm slots, all stainless, all with the same slot-protecting lining.

Precision riffle splitter with controlled sample discharge
Available with 3 mm to 20 mm slot widths, specified by the client or selected from recommended standard sizes. Standard sizes conform to AS 1141.2 and ISO 3082.
The splitters are separable — slot width and quantity can be adjusted to suit the laboratory. The slot-protecting lining is Igor Mironenko's own design, filed in 2010 as Australian innovation patent 2010100147. Innovation patents ran eight years at most and this one ceased on 15 February 2018; the lining is still how the splitters are built, but it is no longer under patent.
Made from stainless steel with an electropolishing finish, suitable for food, pharmaceutical and geotechnical laboratories. Two dust hoods minimise dust pollution in operation, and a swivelled carrying handle makes shifting the unit around the premises comfortable.
The dust hoods are hinged, so the riffles can be inspected for blockages without tools — lift the hood and the operator has clear access.

Splitting ratio test
Testing personnel filled the hopper and weighed the material from three splits of progressively less material. Worst deviation across the three splits: 0.10%.
| Left tray (g) | Right tray (g) | Total (g) | % left | % right | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Split 1 | 3047 | 3059 | 6106 | 49.90 | 50.10 |
| Split 2 | 1527 | 1530 | 3057 | 49.95 | 50.05 |
| Split 3 | 764 | 765 | 1529 | 49.97 | 50.03 |
Three-tiered precision riffle splitter
Designed for laboratories where large quantities or big samples need to be reduced in size quickly. It incorporates everything developed for the single-tier precision splitter above.
Stainless steel with an electropolishing finish. Suitable for food, pharmaceutical and geotechnical laboratories.

Micro riffle splitters
Available with 16 slots at 3 mm width; the number of slots can be altered to the client's specification. Stainless steel, electropolish finish, suitable for food, pharmaceutical, metallurgical and geotechnical laboratories. Two hinged dust hoods.

Laboratory riffle splitters
- Deep loading bunker, which eliminates accidental spillage of the sample over the side of the splitter.
- Does not require special trays — most containers purchased off the shelf will do the job.
- One support frame fits a range of splitters.
- Sized to be comfortable to handle: not so small as to be awkward.
- Stainless steel SS-316 with electropolish finish; support frame in aluminium plate with a powder coat finish, or stainless if required.
- Ideal for splitting small batches of different material samples.
Options: a dust hood can be incorporated on request; special-purpose trays are available.

Large riffle splitters
- Dust hood and fully covered receiving trays eliminate excessive dust pollution in operation.
- Special provision in the design handles tipping over heavy loads, which increases the accuracy of the split.
- Supplied with three trays.
- Removable dividing head — once worn, replace the head rather than the whole splitter.
- One support frame fits a range of splitters.
- Slot sizes for the different dividing heads conform to ISO 3082.
- SS-316 with electropolish finish; support frame in mild steel with a powder coat finish, or stainless if required.
A washing variant is available, to clean the splitter out easily between operations where sticky material such as bauxite ore is involved — stainless body with three anodised aluminium trays.

Two-tiered riffle splitter
An ME&QC exclusive, designed and built for use in the field or in the lab. Ideal for drilling projects where large quantities or big samples need to be reduced in size quickly.
The front dust hood is hinged, so riffles can be inspected and cleared between samples without tools. Standard splitting head configuration is 14 × 30 mm; width and quantity of slots can be specified by the customer, with available slot widths of 20, 25, 30 and 35 mm.

Three-tiered riffle splitter
Built for sample processing shops at mine sites and analytical laboratories. Three hoppers, each with a double trap door opening symmetrically, which gives much more control over the splitting process. Test work puts the weight distribution between sample and reject spot on at 87.5 : 12.5.
Upper hopper capacity 20 litres. Standard splitting head configuration 18 × 31.8 mm; available slot widths 19.05, 25.4 and 38.1 mm.

Slot width and quantity are specified by you. Tell us the material, the sample size and the standard you are working to, and we will confirm a configuration and a price.
Run the machine
A working model of a machine we designed and built, rebuilt from our own drawings and driven by the parameters that actually define it. Drag to orbit; move a slider and the geometry is recomputed.
These are demonstrations, not design records. Each is built from what we hold — drawings where drawings survive, photographs where they do not — and it is a preview of the article, not a drawing of it. Nothing here should be used to order, manufacture or check a part. For dimensions, ask.
